One of my friend is having severe problems with his Operating system.
His Hard disk is Samsung SP0411N
It has 3 partitions - C,D and E.
Windows XP was installed on C drive. One day, some problem happened ( which we don't know exactly) and the system used to restart while booting... i.e. we could see the windows loading screen.. but it restarted just before the welcome screen came. We could see a blue screen with an error message.. somethin like -
c:\windows\system32\software is corrupted\missing. and then the system restarted.
We tried to repair this problem using Windows XP bootable CD, but that did'nt help. I connected the HDD to my comp as slave and tried to backup data from his C drive. He had kept some important data in the Documents and Settings folder of his C drive and I was not able to access that folder from my computer...the message was Access Denied..
So we were in a fix.. and tried all sorta repair stuff - like the Windows XP Quick boot single floppy disk.. but that did not work. Because he was'nt able to use his comp at all.. we installed Windows XP on his E drive and it installed successfully using my comp. It ran properly on my comp. Then I tried to boot the freshly installed WinXP in his computer, it just did'nt boot... it restarted after we entered the first option in the Multiple OS selection screen (second Windows XP was the corrupted one.. and didnt boot)
I just don't understand why the clean installed WinXP does'nt run when he connects the HDD to his PC... and it runs fine when he connects it to my PC..
We asked a few engineers to help us out.. but they too failed to sort out the problem. So frustated
we had no other option but to format C drive and sacrifice the data. We formatted C drive at my place and clean installed WINXP on it. It installed and ran fine. Now... again when we connected the HDD to his comp, the same problem occured... the system used to restart and we couldnt even see the loading screen.
So what's the possible problem? Is it a problem with his BIOS? If yes, how to rectify it? we restored defaults in BIOS.. but the same result.
He has 768 MB of RAM.. 266 MHz.. one's a 256 MB ram stick and the other - 512.There's no problem with the RAM for sure... coz BIOS detects it and the monitor starts perfectly.
I feel there is some interface problem in his hardware and software...during loading there's some conflict I guess... coz all the fresh installed XP at my place worked perfectly.
I am now formatting all 3 partitions, deleting them and then going to make the partitions again and install a clean version of Windows XP on C drive. I am still doubtful whether this will work or not..
Please, if any of you can suggest anything abt this problem, I'll be really v. grateful.
Thanx
Amit.
