a while back i made a post about the ignitor on my grill and how it wouldn't turn off. as soon as you put the battery in it, it would just start sparking all burners. i figured i had a bad ignitor and got a new one from warranty.

well i got the new one and had the same problem. so i called up lowes and they told me that they think the issue now is a shorted grill pin. so i got them in the mail but after looking at them and where they connect (and they are a PITA to install) it seems like it would have nothing to do with the issue.

while i hvaen't installed the new pins, i took 2 videos that demonstrate the problem.

here is the first one that shows what happens when i put the battery in the ignitor with no wires attached.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DA-JujZvozU

here is the 2nd video, with the "main" wire attached. no burners are attached at all, but you can see what the problem is still.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IHPYpgyDAIg

so if i plug a burner wire into the ignitor, since it keeps sparking, the burner keeps sparking as well, regardless of the burner being turned on or off.

so does anyone have any idea wtf could be causing this? could it be that i had 2 bag ignitors? i am cleaning my garage up for a party tomorrow and am going to put this back together for the current time being. i think though i may just use it without the ignitor and just use a match or something to light the grill when i do use it. the ignitor is just a convenience feature anyways.

How is this supposed to work? Is that battery cap a push button? Or is there a push button else where?

What model grill is this?

i gave up on mine a long time ago and use long matches. i use the charcoal grill 90% of the time now for parties and such.

looks like a grounding issue or so. might be some insulated washers missing something as yours doesnt seem to have the clip-on style electrodes.

well no charge is supposed to be sent to the burners until the burner is connected and you turn it to the ignite position. if i hook up one of the burners to it, the burner will spark regardless of where i have the knob turned to.

try puting the battery in backwards.

tried this with the same results.

yea that is my plan if i can't get this to work. at this point i don't think it is worth the hassle. i won't be using this for a while due to it being cold as shit outside lol so figure if i can figure it out meanwhile, might as well.

This, there #2 at Dollar general, my ignitor on my Weber died but they put a hole in the perfect spot so it only takes 2 seconds to light it, I don't see the need to get all dirty replacing the factory ignitor, every one on any brand seem to fail at a young age..

Ignitors are often iffy ... is this a new grill? Did this ignitor ever work correctly in other words?

It looks like there is a wire that comes around the side of the ignitor ... from the top of the ignitor & plugs into it. Video resolution is a little blurry.

that little wire connects to a metal grounding plate that must be touching the grill in order for it to work. it doesn't come off the the ignitor. in my first video there are no other wires connected to it. in the 2nd video it is the one "main" wire that is not a burner wire, and daisy chains along the burners.

and yea this is a new grill i got a long long time ago but just finally built a few months ago when i got a house. ignitor never worked.

Could that wire be plugged into the wrong terminal on the ignitor? Hard to tell from video if it plugs in or not.

it only fits into 1 terminal. the "main" wire has a different fitting than the others. i'm 100% sure it's in the right one.

i've also tried an AAA battery and get the same response.

do you have an ohmmeter? Check for continuity from your frame ground to all connectors on that ignition module.
