Problem with fresh Windows 8 install

I just upgraded my rig (in sig) to a fresh install of Windows 8 then upgraded to 8.1. Previously was running Vista with no problems, but now in BF4 I'm crashing to desktop every single round after running around for a few seconds.

When I launch Rocksmith 2014 the sound output has 'static' and feels laggy.

I upgraded to UEFI BIOS, that didn't seem to help, and have tried various video drivers including 13.11 Beta 9.4 and 13.9. Out of ideas... help please?

PS. Does 13.11 actually support 7970? It says here

Have you tried installing the drivers through Windows Update? Those probablt have the best chance of working.
