problem with Firefox - will not start

I think I installed an update last week and since then, it will not even start up. I click on the shortcut and after a .5 second hourglass - NOTHING.

Any thoughts on fixing this?

I'm assuming you've tried killing any Firefox.exe processes or a reboot already. Profile could've become corrupt. Try renaming that directory. Or see if you can roll back that update.

Does it start in safe mode? (firefox safe mode, not OS safe mode)

Since you didn't say what OS, I'll assume Windows. Doh! Forgot the name of this section.

From the Start or Run menu type and run:

firefox.exe -profilemanager

Then create a new profile, and see if it works.

See if Firefox.exe is running in Task Manager. If so, stop it and then try it again. Also, try to launch it from the program folder itself. If it runs ok, then the shortcut is messed up, probably pointing to the wrong file or location. You can fix the path or just make a new shortcut. Another option is just run the Setup for the latest version of Firefox again. It will be as an upgrade, so you won't lose anything in your profile. If you do this, delete your desktop shortcut, Firefox will create a new one.
