That's an incoming message. Look for a dialog that starts with "A connection to ... was established"

yeah i did a search in the log and it didn't find a "connection to" for today, it found a "connection to" a week ago. so why isn't it getting logged in? does it take time for it to log? is it reaching the log? thanks for your help man...i'm frustrated as hell right now.

You don't have more than one Exchange server do you? It should be written to the log as soon as it happens.

nope, only one exchange server. When I did the nslookup for the mx at home, i notice there are 2 mx entries:

domain.com MX preference = 10, mail exchanger = domain.com

domain.com MX preference = 100, mail exchanger = smtp-relay.pbi.net

Yea but that's just used by sites sending to you. All mail destined for you will go to domain.com. If that is down, it will go to your ISP smtp-relay.pbi.net which will hold it for you until you come back online and then just dump it to you. Fairly common setup.

If you don't see outgoing messages in the .log file, something definitely is wrong. At this point, I'd poke around Microsoft's Technet site - there are a number of documents on troubleshooting delivery and stuck mail problems.

what do you think it can be? i mean it was working fine until recently when it just happen like out of the blue...no one touched the server or anything. The only thing we did was transfer a domain name and webpage from someone hosting it and putting it onto our webserver. Thats about it. Well thanks for trying. I really appreciate it.

okay i did some test and its something to do with the exchange server communicating with outlook or something cause I sented an email manually thru dos by telneting the exchange server on port 25 and it works, it got to the destination quickly but when I go to outlook it doesn't send it out at all....no record whatsoever was recorded in the log but there was a record when i went thru dos and sented email manually that way...so what do you think it can be? any more suggestion? thanx for all your help.

Hi...okay does MS Mail Connector in Exchange 5.5 have anything to do with sending mail out?? cause I get an error when I open up MS Mail Connector in Exchange...the error is something like:

"Extension 'MS' could not be loaded. An error occurred during file
replication. Unable to find the extension .dll file with the correct
version number. To view details of the error, see the application event
log in the Windows NT event viewer on the Microsoft Exchange server
computer.
Microsoft Exchange Administrator
ID No: c1030ad1 "

well I went to add-in in the exchange administrator program and saw that the file conadmin.dll was missing....the Exchange has the latest SP4 so I downloaded the SP4 and got the file conadmin.dll so I put it in the directory where it was suppose to be at but then I get the error with the registry...something to do with security entry or something...I don't know what to put in the registry for it in order to work...other than that I tried to install the service pack over again hoping it will fix it but it didn't. Well any suggestion????? Its really weird, after that, I must have done something that all the mail that was sented a couple of days ago was still in cache so it got sented out...but after all the mail that has been sented out, i tried to send a msg to test it but that didn't go. I don't know whats going on. Its weird.

Another question i had was that, I am able to send mail out via dos prompt...like if i was to telnet to the exchange server at port 25 and did the following:

helo domain.com
mail from:whatever@domain.com
rcpt to:whatever@yahoo.com
data

blah blah blah blah blah blah

.

after that I would get it in yahoo like instantly. So what does that mean...something to do with outlook communicating with exchange? well help me out here guys....my boss is giving me alot of pressure to get this fix, please....you guys are da bomb.

Ignore the MSMail connector. That is if you are using the OLD Exchange client (pre-Outlook) and/or MS Schedule+ (again, pre-Outlook) Exchange 4-5.5 unfortunately throws in alot of that crap.

Sounds like you've tracked it down to one of two things:

Outlook - when you send a message in Outlook, does it hit the server? Check the 'Outbox' in Outlook and if it is not sitting there, the message was passed on to the server and your problem isn't Outlook related. (Make sure Outlook is setup for MS Exchange only - no POP3/SMTP or IMAP stuff should be configured at all. You want Exchange to handle everything. Setting up POP3/SMTP/IMAP on your Outlook client just confuses things.)

Exchange - there is a problem with Exchange passing messages from your Exchange message store to the MTA and then to the IMC.

You know, there are many places where Exchange can croak and at some point you have to give up and cry uncle. Microsoft's Exchange support people are very good and will stay with work with you until the problem is resolved. If you don't have a service contract with them, I think each incident costs around $300, but still, $300 is nothing in corporate America when you are broke and like I said, they WILL resolve the problem. (The fee is a one time deal until the problem is resolved, regardless of how many times you have to, if at all, call them back.)

I would suggest that route.

wus up bud...hey i notice something today...when I went to ms mail connector...even though it gives me the error: Extension 'MS' could not be loaded........: i am able to get in there by hitting ignore. Once I am in there, I click on Queues, it has MTS-IN and MTS-OUT...in the MTS-OUT i see a couple of my messages qued up in there. Another thing is that, when I access the exchange administration from my computer, it gives me all the tabs, 9 total but when I access from the exchange server itself and hit ignore, it only gives me 3 tabs which one of them isn't qued, it has like general, address space, and diagnostic logging. Why is it being qued in the MS Mail Connector instead of the INS?? how do i change it back? i tried to get MS Mail connector to work by putting in the exchange 5.5 cd but there isn't a setup file, just an update.exe...there aren't a setup.exe file in the cd. Well hope you can help me out still quickly or else i have to call microsoft. Thnx
