Hey.. I'm having a problem with my moms emachine. All was fine for about 2 years. Then this morning all of a sudden the comptuer was off. Tried turning it on this morning and the power button does nothing. I opened the case and looked around.... everything seems fine. I swapped out the power supply.. No go. I unplugged everything and reseated it all including the ram. Still nothing. I unplugged the power switch and tried to jump it manually and still nothing. The led on the mobo is coming on.... but NOTHING else. Not sure what else to try.

Any ideas?

Well, I've unplgged everything and tried to power just the mobo and cpu... Wouldn't that accomplish the same thing or no?

Not if the problem is your mobo or cpu. I mean, I don't know anything specific about your problem, I'm just talking in generalities.

maybe you have 2 faulty psus?

i remember asking about questions like this awhile back somewhere, and i got responses from cpu heating up to YOUR OUTLET HAS PROBLEMS...

reset cmos?
plug your computer somewhere else?
try another psu?
give up?

Just swapped out the motherboard with a socket 478 MSI. It now turns on without a problem but as soon as it gets close to windows I get an instant bluescreen and it reboots itself..... argh

it's doing it as SOON as the windows xp graphic comes up.. the one with the bar underneath it.

The new motherboard was not the same model as the old one. That really shouldn't matter though, should it?

it must be a problem with one of the compunents that isnt utilised until windows is booted. Sound, graphics anything. even check the ram.
