Problem with ECS K7S5A

My computer froze up pretty bad a few days ago, and when I tried to restart it, nothing happens besides the fans turn on and some HD activity... no beep from the pc speaker and the motherboard won't post either. I assume that means the motherboard or cpu went bad, but i was wondering if there's anything i can do to figure out more precisely what the problem is. I already tried unplugging all the drives and unnecessary stuff.

Athlon XP 1600+
ECS K7S5A (the old v1.0)
512mb DDR pc2100
 
Try resetting the bios via the onboard jumper. then try 1st different video card, 2nd different memory.
 
Reseat everything, cables, cards, etc. If that doesn't do it, start swapping memory and vid cards. You might even want to try another psu.
 
I got the same board about the same age or so. Version 1. Every once in a while it just goes flooy and looses the bios settings. I would definitely discharge the bios and make sure the battery's ok. Also had a stick of RAM fail.
 
I'm also having the sam issues as well. I can hear everything booting up and everything seems to be working but no visual que when turning on the system. I've tried multiple brands of hardware and I know all the hardware is good. Any ideas????

Are you talking about resetting the CMOS with the jumper? or something else... what did you mean discharge the bios. I guess I'm sort of a noob.
 
Yes, there is a jumper that resets the bios. You can also take the battery out and wait a while, I guess. But remember to put the jumper back. I'd check that jumper in any case to make sure it's in the right place. I hope you get it working.

BS...have run many installations with these boards...some for several years...not one single problem. SOME boards may be touchy, but all mfgs make SOME boards that are touchy. I have found the K7S5A to be extremely stable, but lacking in features. A very good board all around.

 
I concur ^. PITA to get the USB2 drivers properly loaded, though, and they don't seem to work properly with Ghost. Part of the "lacking in features", I suspect.
 
The USB2 drivers mess is thanks to some intellectual property (Microsoft's? I dunno) in the drivers. So mainboard vendors can't make them downloadable because every single driver going out costs a license fee. Or something.

What's the problem with Ghost?

What's so hard about double clicking the VIA installer? I explained this to you in
this thread months ago.
 
The installer did not work properly, and I ended up having to install them manually - for this one particular mobo, several other of the same mobos installed USB2 fine. But then again, I've been doing this for around 20 years, whereas some clueless end-user would be SOL Regardless, the board still does not support Ghost via USB2.

You're telling me the USB2 driver wouldn't install for one K7S5A Pro identical to these other K7S5A Pro's using the same procedure? I've used 50+ Pro's in builds now and the VIA USB2 installer off their included discs has loaded the driver perfectly fine on all of them. Perhaps the VIA installer on that Pro's particular disc was forked.
