Problem with dvdrw drive

I have a Samsung SH-S182M dvdrw/cdrw drive and it is suppsed to record dvd-+r's at 18x, but when i put in a ridata 8x blank dvd-r into the drive and use nero to burn, nero only lets me select 4x and 2x...and i'm pretty sure i have the latest firmware on this drive...whats wrong with my drive?

NOt likely drive it is the media.....Some compatability with that brand of media may make the calibration off when the drive determines its maximum sustainable burn speed to that media...

I suggest you try some other brand....
