Problem with DLINK DIR-615 router

My laptop keeps disconnecting from my home network and I have no clue why. It's currently running in WEP mode (Open) on channel 4 in mixed B/G mode. The laptop is running Windows 7. The rest of the settings are pretty much all at default. I am using cable internet and i have the latest firmware.

What happens is that every once in a while the laptop loses connection on the network and i have to reboot the router for it to work again. I've tried all the encryption settings and different channels but it keeps doing it. The signal is good since the router is about 25 ft away only in an open space.

Is there anything that might be worth changing in the settings? I'm out of ideas, I am about to return the router if I can... if i can provide any other info let me know.

The laptop loses connection to the router, or it's still connected but no internet?

I would go to http://192.168.100.1 and check your signal levels

WEP Open? So you have no password on it and anyone can access the internet threw your router? If thats the case then its likely a IP conflict from someone near you using your internet and there system is trying to use the same IP address as your laptop.

That's not at all what WEP Open is. And also, it's unlikely that someone decided to set a static IP address and picked the only one he is using.

hey thanks for the replies. The signal level is usually around 70% which is good as far as i know?

The WEP mode is "open" but there is a key. I tried "Shared" and WPA/WPA2 and it didn't change anything... It's wonky because no reboots, etc are made and i need to reset the router. If it's an ip issue how can someone knock me off the IP while it's being used? What should I try to see if it's the issue?

And the laptop keeps the connection to the router but not to the internet. It's connected to the network but when we try to open a site it doesn't load anything.

Funny thing just happened.. the internet wasn't working on the laptop again so i logged into the control panel to reboot it, and now it works without even rebooting. What is going on? :/ Such a weird issue.

What's probably happening is that the modem signal level (not your wifi signal level) is dropping below acceptable levels, causing the modem to internally reset itself. This requires a reboot of the router to fix usually.

Also, you could check if it's an IP conflict by opening a command windows and typing "ipconfig /all" It'll say if there's a conflict. But, it's not a conflict (at all).

Hm. Well, I can't say for certain - and I hesitate before telling you to buy something, but usually this is caused because of a weak signal to the modem. I guess I should ask if you have a cable modem?

If so, you could buy a signal amplifier from best buy or anything like that. It's important that it's 2-way, though. A lot of them are only 1-way (designed for TV's) and block the signal. This *should* solve your problem.
