Problem with dial-up connection and downloads

Hi,
I have a problem with downloading larger files (demos) via my 56k/V90 dial-up connection. After some minutes of d/loading the V90 mode is dropped for a few seconds (I've read somewhere that this time is used for re-negotiating), and is restablished then.
Sometimes this doesn't work, V90 stays down, and the download becomes REALLY slow (and I pay per minute!).
Go!zilla now tries to change the d/load site again and again. It doesn't recognize that as a matter of fact the ISP connection is bad.
If the connection was shut down totally, then Go!zilla would be able to dial up again automatically. But if that's not the case, it just keeps trying to d/load.
Does anyone know how to overcome this problem? Does Go!zilla have a feature which I don't know about that can solve the problem?
Thanks a lot for your input!

Thanks!
Is that link meant as a proposal to change my ISP? If so I must say that the current ISP situation in Germany is pretty bad:(. They all have problems to provide the call-by-call customers sufficient bandwidth, especially in the evening and on weekends.
So I'm hoping to overcome the problem technically (automatic disconnect and reconnect if the connection gets bad), but I don't know how to accomplish that.
