Problem with Dell 2001FP

Got my 2001FP a couple days ago, looks like there might be aproblem with it. When I quickly scan across a solid color-filled area on screen with my eyes while moving my head slightly, I see what appears to be a fine checkerboard pattern (not quite sure if it's the screendoor effect people were talking about. It looks fine if my eyes are steady though. Are my eyes playing tricks on me, or is the monitor screwed up? I saw the same thing on my friend's 2001FP, so I'm leaning towards the former right now. It didn't happen with my old LCD though, so the latter is a possibility as well.

I just tried, and I can't duplicate that effect on either of my 2001FPs. I believe that the "screen door effect" is something different: seeing the square pixel lattice when you're up close to the monitor, since each pixel is so big (even though it's UXGA, it is spread over a large area). I think you have to be waaay up close to be bothered, personally.

Are you running in DVI? I've never tried running either of mine with analog before, but it apparenlty makes a huge difference in quality.

There is an odd coating on the 2001FP that might explain what you're seeing. Mottled is the best word I can think of to describe it.

Are you talking about the effect where you get up close, and see shifting colors (especially on white) when you move back and forth? That is really strange, I think. I noticed this for the first time on the Dell UltraSharp screen that came one my Inspiron 8200; oddly enough, it seems to enhance sharpness somehow, but I can't pin it down. So it's the coating, huh? The coating on my 2001FPs is rough, and the one on my old laptop is smooth and shiny.

So, is anybody else having this problem?

I notice it once in a while.. sometimes when it's a static graphic.. sometimes when it's moving video.. only when I'm close to the monitor.

I blame all those bastards who kept informing people about the 'problem'.. grrrr..

I don't think it's that big of an issue though.

Well, it's not really the usual screendoor effect, where I can see individual pixels. More like a checkerboard pattern, sort of like what happens when you use the pattern dither command in photoshop.
