Problem with creative zen micro organizer

This is what it looks like when I connect the mp3 player (creative zen micro). Every time I click on an artist, the player freezes and the organizer shuts down. Haven't really done anything different in recent memory to prompt this, but it just started happening recently. Anything?
 
it's been solid for almost 3 years, and over a year on my new pc. I don't know how this could have happened.
