Problem with Chrome

Trying to help someone remotely on a laptop I don't have access to.

Win 8, when they use IE it frequently crashes for no apparent reason (I won't even try to find that problem), so they're using Chrome.

When Chrome starts, it's ok, but when she tries to go to another site like Yahoo financial, it puts the page in super small, unreadable font in a small part of the available space.

No obvious settings options jumped out, OS default is 1920x~1080. Any ideas?

Sounds like some annoying adware/ malware.

I had a related issue with a lady's pc a few months ago. Browsers were just not behaving. I finally just made her a new Windows profile and everything in both browsers was back to normal.

do they have the abilty to change from chrome ..i found firefox very reliable for over 15 years now..this is more a suggestion rather another browser it`s approx 30 meg download and may solve issues but i think there is something wrong else where from the fact that i-e is crashing... open a com promt as admin type this ...sfc /scannow.....let it scan and finish you could also use ...chkdsk c: ................. if they have ccleaner run that check the registry for problems...if possable install it you may also want to go through their... programs and features..and remove junk programs.... also i just would not use chrome ...i cannot help you there also if a virus scanner like comodo or super anti spy ware ...malware antibytes..is available try some of these..but as for the registry ccleaner would be your best bet..imo

Thanks for the tips so far. I suggested firefox but she 'likes chrome'. I'll try a chkdsk - what options do you recommend - and try to get a malware cleaner run.

I dislike generalities, but I find Chrome to be a PUP freeway.

If it's only happening for one (or a few web sites) then it may be that she/someone reduced the scaling (zoom) of that particular web site. The browser will remember that setting until it's changed.

Try Ctrl-0 ("control-zero") to reset the size to the site's default. (Control-plus and control-minus can be used to increase and decrease the size.)

For IE, In win 8 open a run box, winkey+ R. Then type inetcpl.cpl, that opens internet options. Then go to the advanced tab and click the reset button on the bottom. Then reboot. IE should open normally afterward.
