Problem With Catalyst 2.4

I was just saying how good ATi's drivers have become in a recent post. Now I download the latest ones and begin to suffer problems. I installed these drivers, and everything seemed fine, except when I started to head to these very forums. I noticed when scrolling up and down the page, I can see it redraw the next frame. This should not be. I went into the driver's settings. I noticed SmartGART has my AGP speed listed as Off. I downloaded powerstrip to try and confirm this, it claims that I am currently running in 4x mode. However, I also cannot open an OpenGL game (Haven't tried DX), at least Quake3. However, upon trying to open 3DMark there was some sort of error claiming my card doesn't support the minimum requirements. I supposedly can change my AGP rate, but when I change it and restart it doesn't actually do it. Anyone have any suggestions? I don't want to have to back off to older drivers, but I will if necessary.

try uninstalling and reinstalling the latest drivers. also, make sure you have the latest version of your motherboard drivers.

btw, when you say that quake 3 "wont open," do you mean that it locks up, gives you an error message, or what?

To install the new Catalyst drivers ....and for them to work correctly you MUST uninstall all previous versions of the drivers, reboot and then install the new ones.

For me I uninstalled the Rage3d tweak control panel program....rebooted
Uninstalled ATI control panel...rebooted
Uninstalled ATI drivers....rebooted
Told Windows to cancel installation of new hardware when it prompted to....then proceeded to install drivers and control panel and rebooted.

I did do that, I am aware of that. I tried installing them in different order too, both control panel and drivers first.

I got an error in the command line. Something about GL not initializing. I can't totally remember, and I just installed the previous versions again

You need to start Quake in safe mode and change the settings......not sure how you do it though. I think you use the command line and add either /safe or -safe ??
