Problem with BX Master and ATA66

I have a Quantum Fireball Plus LM 30GB and a BX Master motherboard. Whenever I hook up the HD to either ATA66-1 or ATA66-2, windows will never finish loading (it loads the desktop but none of the icons and just hangs forever) and also the HD LED doesn't work right when the HD is plugged into ATA66-1 or ATA66-2. Everything works alright if I connect the HD to IDE-1 or IDE-2. Right now I have the Award BIOS 4.51 and the ATA66 BIOS ver. 1.15. Should I flash the BIOS or is there another way to fix this problem? Also, the Promise ATA66 controller doesn't appear in device manager.

did you load the promise drivers? I'd try that. From what I can tell is that the HD light is for ata33 not 66? I could be wrong.

The LED connector for ATA66 is up closer to the connectors, not where the others are. Also, it sounds like you need to check your jumper settings and also make sure the drive is running in ATA66 mode. I don't know about Quantum, but with Western Digital you can enable or disable ATA66 with software (on the setup utility that comes with the drive, or download it). Once you get to windows, you must install the Promise drivers.

If you are talking about the hdd LED plugged into the Promise/mobo, don't worry about it, it is not your problem. I had one a while back and the LED never worked right.

Your problem could be a hardware conflict. Make sure Pnp OS is selected in the BIOS and Auto for PCI/ISA. Windows may be locking because you may have a hardware conflict.

compuwiz 1 you were right about the LED. There is a separate one for the ATA66 drive. Also I have checked the ATA66 cable and it is plugged in right. Also this may be a dumb question, but where do I get the Promise driver for windows? It isn't on the included CD and the only thing I could find on MSI's website is a BIOS update for the ATA66 controller.
