Hi guys. I tried updating my drivers for my radeon 8500 today and got a error after it was done installing the last bit of stuff. The error message i got was, "Setup was unable to complete installation. Try to setup your diplay adpater with a standard VGA driver before running setup." Does anyone know how to solve this? I've tried several omega drivers and the official Ati drivers on the Ati site and still get the same error. Thanks.

Go to Control Panel and Remove the ATI Catalyst drivers. Then set your vid display to VGA (it might do this automatically when you reboot). THEN try reinstalling the Catalysts.

Nope sorry john. I did what you just told me to do and no luck. Even windows says there's an error. Do you guys think it's a hardware or software problem? I've had no problems since i built my system and this is the only time i've updated the drivers.

If you have a spare non-ATI video card you could try using that and running one of the driver cleaner programs to get rid of any vestigial ATI drivers. Then maybe you could reinstall the ATI and install the Catalysts.
