I just built a new computer and am trying to install an IDE HD on the third Promise IDE controller (RAID, but you're supposed to be able to install a normal IDE drive on it also). We reinstalled Windows and during installation updated the bios for the Promise Controller. We used the ATA Driver at Asus for Promise. Anyway, it shows up during start up and also in device manager, but nowhere else in Windows. Can anyone help me with this problem? I want the hard drives on their own wires.

Here is what the computer has:

AMD 64 3400+
Asus K8V SE Deluxe
WD 80GB HD (Primary IDE) (also the boot drive)
Plextor CD Burner (Secondary IDE)
WD 160GB (Promise IDE/Raid)
9600 Radeon Video Card 64MB (irrelevant)
1GB Kingston RAM

Go to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management and go here and see if your drive is listed. If so, right-click the white bar that represents its capacity and you should see what to do from there :)

Make sure both WD drives are set to Stand alone or Cable select and make sure both are seen by either the system bios (for the boot drive) or the promise bios (for the storage drive) also you will need to configure an array w/ just the storage drive in the promise bios for windows to Rec. the drive even after the drivers are loaded. Hope this helps... :)
