Hi,

I got this tape drive in a garage sale. It detects perfectly with my aha 2940w scsi card in Windows XP and also shows in device manager as "Archive Python 02779-xxx". Drivers are perfect and no conflicts. XP Backup also recognizes the drive.

But all I have is DDS-3 12/24 GB DAT media only and all these media gets ejected immediately from the tape drive as soon as it is inserted. Is it the problem with drive or is the DAT media that I'm using is not compatible with this drive? Then which media is compatible with this drive.

I'm searching for this product's manufacturer website and still couldn't get it. A few links in search takes me to Seagate website. Is the
product line bought over by seagate? I want to know if there is any diagnostic util available in manufacturer website to test the drive.

Any help is appreciated.

TIA

Does the drive eject media even if there is no SCSI cable plugged in?

If so, the DAT transport could be damaged or mis aligned. These machines are like miniature VCR's. It's not recommended for the novice to attempt physical repair of the drive.

Check your event viewer to see if there are and SCSI errors. Most likely there wouldn't be since nothing can be read or written from/to the media.

Yes. It ejects even if the scsi cable is not connected. I'm seriously doubting
media with drive mismatch. Anyone know the compatible media for this drive?

Sorry to say but it looks like this is DDS-DC drive. Using DDS 90meter tapes you will
get 2gigs native and upto 4gigs compressed. DDS tapes are all coded differently, so
depending on the drive it is not unusual for it to eject a tape it does not support.
Try to find some 90meter tapes and give it a go. If worse comes to worse let me know
(Private Message) and I can send you 1 or 2 for the price of shipping and a little for my trouble.

Hi Stormside,

Thanks for the info. I thougt this drive would take DDS-3 12/24 gb tapes.
I have plenty of them. If its only 4 gb, I better take out the drive and burn
my contents on FAR cd-r's.

Thanks again.
