I get an error with IE and anandtech web site, sometimes when i open a news or an article I get an open error, when I have loaded the full web page, is only in IE and I have tested in Windows 2000 and Windows XP is the same problem I can sometimes read half a paragraph and yet get the error, other times almost when is complete, sorry but is not a forum issue just the main site.

sorry for the poor grammar and spelling.

i have that on my work PC as well .. cant be bothered to find out what the problem is though (as i should be working 😛) .. i found when that happend, if you just press the back button after you click OK to the error message, then press stop when the text has loaded up, that allows you to view the page without problem .. 😉

quick fix thats all i can offer

EDIT: Ahh also at work i am running Internet explorer 5.5 for security issues, rather than 6 which i am using now at home, and at home it works fine. You might find that there is a compatibility issues with the two different versions of browsers, that?s if you are running 5.5, you can check which version you have by opening up your browser, then go to help then ?About internet Explorer? .. it will tell you which version you have in there.

I would say go to the MS site, and run the automatic update, then update anything you require, also update your java plugin as well, if need be 😉

One word: Firefox.

This one is a difficult issue to find as i cant make it occur on a single testbed i have (8 total). It's either an ad, or something that a specific version of IE doesn't like. If anyone has any ideas, I am all ears.

Glad to see multiple people are having the same problem. I noticed it start about a month ago, and thought it was a work problem. Then I got it on my home system as well this week.

Work System is Windows 2000 with Corporate firewall stuff
Home System is Windows XP SP2, using MS Java with Sun Java uninstalled

I'll be viewing a page in the Article or News Channel, typically from Yahoo via an RSS feed. I can see the article, and after a little time the page comes up with the error
IE cannot open the Internet site http:...
Operation Aborted

I can still view the page behind the error but when I click OK, the page resets and shows a 'The page cannot be displayed' error.

This has gotten to the point where I don't click on a link unless anadtech has something REALLY interesting.

Also, I do not have this proble in the Forums

I figured as much. A little more detail...

Work version running IE 6.0.2800.1106CO SP1, Q823353, Q833989

I'll post home IE details in a few hours. My guess is it's an ad, but as you said. Where to begin...

They only have IE at college where I go. Also, there is no Quick Reply box with IE, either.
I tried IE 6 at school and IE 7 on my laptop.

I get this error every time I try to read any articles or news... and the 'quick fix' method of pressing stop hardly works, because I get the error message before any text comes up.

=(

Yes there is quick reply with IE, it's just minimized by default. In the upper right corner of each thread you see a red u-turn icon. Click it. Viva la Quick Reply.
