Problem with A7V266

I have an Asus A7V266 with an XP 1700+ and the fan that comes with the retail CPU. I got this through the AMD EPP. It's been running pretty weird ever since I put it together. When i first booted up and tried to install XP, it kept locking up and restarting and once I even got an error saying that my CPU speed was incorrect and it manually changed to 1100 (11x100) in the bios. Before I was running at 133X11 or 1466Mhz, which is what its speed is. Now, it keeps on crashing and having the blue screen when I'm in XP, saying that windows must shut down in order to prevent further damage to your system. The temps are 55C (idle) for system, 29C for MB. Core voltage is 1.8. I just left everything as default and having fooled with it at all. In the Bios, I can't even change it back to 1100MHz now, it won't let me although it's set as jumperless in the motherboard settings and I was able to change it before. Any suggestions would greatly help me. Oh yeah, my case is an Antec 1035B with an 350watt antec PS that came with it.

the package came pre-assembled with the heatsink and fan and memory, so it seems to be in place. it's Kingston PC2100 DDR 256MB

after running prime95 for 30 minutes, the temperature according to asus probe is up to 65C, dangerously high I think.
