I have a philips cdrw that I bought from someone one the board and it keeps locking up when copying or running a program off it in win98se. It will copy sometimes, but when it locks up, it locks up the whole pc. is there anyway to update anything on it. I have heard of firmware? updates? any help

Contacting the guy does no good, since he seems to have dropped of the planet.

Thanks.

Latest firmware for Philips pcrw804 is v2.5. Compare that with your version in the device manager.

These kind of problems can be caused by too small PSU. What other devices do you have connected to
your computer?
Have you tried the burner in any other computer?

I had the same problems, but they were caused by my Promise Ultra 100 controller.

I've had the same problem too, I've flashed the burner to the latest firmware version, I have a nice PS (431Watt Enermax), and I was using Win2k.

I'm just replacing it though, but if anyone has a solution I'm all ears for it.

I don't if you have the same problem that I do but this is what happens to me:
Basically, I'll be watching a DVD or something and then the CDRW will take
control and the Disc In light starts blinking and everything freezes. I can't
do anything with my PC until it stops, and sometimes it doesn't. This is under
XP. Right now I have it unpluged but I'm planning on working on it in a bit.
Also, I do have the latest firmware...

for some reason the problem cleared up. I have burned several disk and load an entire disk and tested it thouroughly and everything is now fine.

I have a friend with a brand new pc and his cdrw locks up in the middle of burns everytime. I suspect the ps now. he is having some programs lock up as well!!

Thanks, Bruce

Just in case anyone was wondering, My friends machine who was locking up with the dvd and cdrw was caused by his nic card, funny it was put in last. I has been running smooth since friday. The msworks 2001 was getting an illegal op all the time and it ended up being a printer driver. I uninstalled and re-installed the driver and all is fine. It is funny how the little thing can cause the biggest problems and you spend hours trying to find them??

Hey, I was wondering if any of you guys have the firmware for the Philips drive. After flashing my drive I deleted it and I would like to experiment with it again now. If you have it please, please let me know. Philips has taken it off their site. Thanks.
