Problem with a dialup connecton

I have a computer that a customer brought me. She SWEARS the when she cancelled and uninstalled Netzero THEY DELETED INTERNET EXPLORER!!! So obviously she has no clue what she talking about.

She did drop Netzero and got Bellsouth Dial-up. Off the bat I realize that she is using the wrong username/password. With that accomplished I sign in to internet and connects correctly but I cannot get to a website or use AIM or anything.

Firewall is open and not blocking traffic. Modem is installed correctly and the hardware looks good. Connecting correctly and not getting any errors.

Anyone got any ideas or suggestions (short of a format which is not an option or really an idea)?
