Problem with a computer

Hy everybody !
I need some help in a hardware problem. I have a P4 system which worked just fine until last week when I burrowed to a friend (he needed it for a project). I know that I made a mistake but is too late now. When that so called friend returned it the computer didnd't function at all. Well, the CPU's fan and the main fan are still working. Initially, I sought that there is an incompatibillity but after I checked every component only motherboard + CPU remained. Now, I switched the P4 motherboard with an older one (for P3) and neither that motherboard + CPU worked (that motherboard is 100 % functionally). When I put another P3 motherboard (with its processor) - which I tooked from a friend - that worked perfect.
My question is : is my new motherboard (and the older one) completely destroyed by that $#^ guy ? Can I do anything or not ?
Thank you.
P.S. When I start the computer the screen is completelly black and I hear a series of 3 short beeps.

Check the motherboard manuel and look at the post codes 3 short beeps means somethings wrong the manuel should tell you what it is.

Wish I knew what motherboard/bios you had...AMI Bios says that it's a "base 64K RAM failure," Award Bios says that it's a ram problem.
