Problem with 8500 - Still!

Got me an 8500 this week. I love the quality of the picture, but I am having some problems that I think are driver related, but maybe not. Every now and then I get a "split" screen (the same on the left as the right) also, when I play cs or run 3dmark, I get a blank screen about every 5-10 seconds, and the the picture comes back. Maybe it is just a setting in the driver, but I am not to familiar with this card. I put my GeForce 3 Ti200 back in, and all is well. I would like to keep the 8500 if I can get it to work. My 3dmark score was 100 points over my gf3 ti200! Anyways, please help!

EDIT: Split screen problem is gone. Now I just get the blank screen in my games and 3d mark.

Edit: Got it narrowed down even more. I have a Cornea 17" tft. It has both analog and digital inputs. I have been using the digital side of the 8500. I switched over to the analog side, and no more blank screen. I was able to run 3d mark all the way through (got an 8100 score with no overclocking). So, it has to do with the digital side of the 8500 (I say the 8500 because digital runs fine on my gf 3 Ti 200). So am missing a special setting for the digital side?

You don't mention your SO, but i have been running the 4.13.9009 driver from ATI's web site, and for the last few days the 4.13.9016 driver from rage3d.com, and have had no such issues at all in windoze ME.

Those two drivers have been very stable, and with the 9009 driver (which i ran for a few days with my Radeon 64ddr and again for a day with the 8500) the 8500 at the same settings very nearly doubled the best 3dmark2001 score the Rad 64ddr could muster on the same computer, though the gf3Ti200 coupld blow the R64ddr out of the water too.

First off make sure you clean out all old drivers using Detonator Destroyer or something like that after using the unistall feature of Win XP or Win 98 or whatever version you are using. Then try the modified drivers at the site I am linking. This guy does an EXCELLENT job of making a nice driver set for Radeons. I have no issues AT all now with his newest set of drivers. EXCELLENT cards those Radeons when you get all the bugs out and these drivers correct most everything.

I am still having the same problems. The display just goes blank for about a second, then it comes back on, then it flashes blank again and so forth. I used the drivers from the omega site, still no dif. I have used the official and beta from ATI. No diff. HELP! Please. I want to play my games again.

You didn't specify what kind of power supply you're using; you have a lot of stuff hooked up there (2 hard drives, two media drives, a processor, a sound card, and probably a case fan or two), maybe the extra power of the Radeon is the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back with regards to your power supply output.

DClark,
I have an Antec 400 watt power supply. I would think that would be enough. My Nvidea Gf 3 Ti 200 runs fine on this box, it is just tis Radeon that is giving me fits. Thanks for the idea! The cars runs fine, just not in the 3d stuff it looks like.

<< Beatles,
Yes, I have it disabled and there is no difference.

And all references to nVidia have been purged from the system AND the registry? Get registry crawler and search for nv1, nv0 and nv4 and delte all keys.

Actually, it was doing it before I had the Nvidea card in. I got a new motherboard and processor and so I did a fresh install and a raid setup. I started out with the 8500 so that there would be no conflict. It was only after that that I installed the gf 3 Ti 200 to see if it was the graphics card or the mboard. I have ruled out another thing, I have a 17" Cornea tft. I have been using the digital out from my card, but this morning I switched it over to analog (don't know why I did not think of that before) and low and behold, no more problems. I did not have that problem with the gf 3 though. So I am wondering if there is some setting I am missing for the digital side so that this does not happen. Any ideas?

In the Ati Dispaly Properties there is a tab for selecting the display device (TV, Analog, or Digital) Have you checked there to make sure the target display is selected?

In with my Radeon 8500, I got a "Ferrite Request Card"; It appears to be an adapter for monitors without ferrite cores, but I'm not sure if the plug is for the analog or digital output (they just have one drawing and the plug is facing away).

You could e-mail ATi and ask for more details about the Ferrite adapter, or just mail it in and see what you get back.
