Problem with 300gb raptor?

I have an issue recently with my 6 month old 300gb velociraptor.

In the past few weeks, sometimes on cold boot, win7 will hang on the logo screen or blue screen into a restart. When this happens, numerous restarts would have the same result. That is until I unplug/replug the sata cable back into the motherboard, then win7 would load properly and is 100% stable with normal performance.

It did the same thing on my old 965p motherboard, but not as often as it does now on my new p55 board. Once it was able to load into windows desktop with extremely sluggish performance, but the replugging of the sata cable was able to do the trick again.

I've tried different sata cables without success. I've tried reinstalling win7, but it seems more likely to be a hardware issue. There also seems to be a loose part in the drive that rattles about when I flip the drive around, but it has been like this ever since I got the drive new, and was too lazy to rma it since it appeared to work fine.

Is the drive going bad? Its still under warranty but the diagnostic tool from WD says nothing's wrong with it.

No I haven't. My gigabyte p55a-ud3 came with the latest F6 bios.

Are there any firmware updates for the raptor? The one on my raptor is 04.04V01.

Very interesting. I have had the same problem at times with my 74GB Raptor and this MB. I believe this is the Intel ICH 9 controller. This raptor was purchased in 07. The way I fix it is by changing the SATA port it is connected to. And my MB is a Gigabyte.

This is my MB.

This happens in both Vista and Win 7.
