I'm having a bitch of a time getting this working on my XP system. I first installed the card, booted...and XP detected and installed drivers. I then shut down, attached an HD to it, and booted...it said that it didn't detect anything...and it hung. I then tried to connect my CD-R to it, and still...hung on nothing detected. As long as nothing is attached the machine boots fine though...so I dunno.

I just reinstalled the drivers off of the floppy, but currently I'm formatting a new HD, so I won't have a chance to test it out for a while.

Any ideas?

Tried the latest drivers off their website? I suppose you could try a different PCI slot as well. I've hardly had any trouble with Promise' PCI RAID cards under WinXP. They usually work like a charm. I do use the latest BIOS and drivers from the website though.

It's still not working...I tried the latest drivers, and nothing. The card obviuosly works, since it boots fine when there is no device attached.

For the time being, I guess I'm just going to have to go without a CD-ROM drive...but does anyone else have any ideas?

Was the HD designated Master? Try changing the jumpers to Cable Select and see what happens.

Some PCI controllers simply do not handle CD-ROM devices well.

Okay...I tried using Cable Select, and I tried moving the card to a different PCI slot...still no juice.

Here are my full specs, in case that helps:

Athlon XP 1700
ECS K7S5A
1x512 Crucial SDRAM
Herc GTXP Soundcard
Maxtor 20 gig
IBM 14 gig
IBM 75 gig
IBM 120 gig
Lite-On 32x12x40x CDRW

Any more suggestions would be great...thanx.

GREAT! Now it just got f*cking worse...all of the sudden my network connection doesn't work. My network info reverted back to 0.0.0.0 and when I click repair it says that it can't renew my address. F*ck me, this has been one awful day.

Wonder if the NIC and RAID cards are sharing resources of some kind, IRQ or something? You might have to play musical PCI slots with them... ;) Sometimes RAID cards like to be bus-mastering. Tried it in PCI slot 1 yet?
