problem w/ Playing videos

Can anyone tell me what I need in order to play movies on my PC. I have the latest windows media player and powerDVD but for some reason when I press play it just plays the audio but no video.
 
What kind of movies are they? In what format are they?

You probably don't have the proper codecs to play the files.

 
its a DVD movie it says Xvid

which codec do you think i need..it doesnt give me any error just plays sound no video
