Problem w/ new build

I've got an issue w/ my new computer. This was my first build. I put together:

3000 a64
chaintech vnf3
mushkin 3200 512
Antec 3700
IOmagic dvd rw
Generic floppy
SATA Hitchachi 120g

When I booted the computer it brought up, "Disk Boot failure, insert system disk and press enter." Above that, it had, "For Realtek RTL8139(x)/8130/810x PCI Fast Ethernet Controller v2.13 (020326)
PXE-061: Media test failure, check cable
PXE-MOF: Exiting PXE Rom.

I figured the comp. was searching for a network but I'm not connected to one. So, I placed my windows xp disk in my drive and restarted. I got the same message. I restarted again and entered the bios and changed the boot order so the comp. looked at my dvd drive first. Still, I got the same message.

This is my first build and I have no clue where to go from here. Any help is appreciated.

Is your Windows CD the genuine article? Do you see the DVD drive being detected by your motherboard's BIOS?

Weird 😕 You're taking the right approach. Does it not even do the "Press any key to boot from CD..." prompt? Do you hear it spinning up the CD at the time you'd expect?

I hearing everything spinning up. All the fans work, the green led's for the floppy and cd rom flicker but it always goes to
PXE-061: Media test failure, check cable
PXE-MOF: Exiting PXE Rom.

I dunno if its b/c I'm using a SATA hard drive (I've never used one before) or if there's something wrong w/ my dvd drive. I think I'm going to switch out my dvd drive w/ my cd drive. I'll see if that works.

Yeah, your hard drive/and or CD-ROM aren't connected right. Did you use the correct cables for the HD (aka the ones that came with the mobo)? Also did you set the jumpers right on the HD and CD-ROM?

Yup, I used the cables that came with the mb. I rechecked the connections and they look correct. The bios correctly recognizes my dvd drive. I don't understand why it won't boot from that drive. I did more looking around and it appears I need to install drivers for my SATA hard drive before the bios will recognize it. This is frustrating.
