Nec 3500a 16x burner
Ricoh 16x media

When I burn w/ nero the highest speed I can select is 4x. Any idea why this could be? I even used nero to test write speed and it gave me 21.4x. So why can't I burn at at least 16x? This is driving me crazy. :(

It is quite possible you may need to upgrade either your firmware or Nero itself (or both). New media needs support on the hardware level and software level.

My nero is version 66013 and I can't choose more than 4x. Thought this was one of the latest versions.

Cool, but just for anyone else reading this....
I had a similar problem with an older machine. It turned out that the IDE controller was just plain slow. (That wasn't my only problem. I ended up getting a whole new system. My Celeron 433 just wouldn't cut it. hehe)
