Problem w/ car

Senior member
I drive a 1991 Honda CRX w/ a 1.5L.
I just bought this car, and noticed the rpms would spike about 500-1000rpms when im idling. Like a hikkup (spelling?).
I figured i would change the spark plugs/wires, since i would sooner or later. I went to checker's bought some plugs and wires. Switch out the first spark plugs/wire no problem. As I am trying to unscrew the second one, i notice that it never cought to unscrew it (Im just using a wrench/adapter/spark plug tool). Niether did the other 2. You know how the spark plug has the part that the wrench can catch on, it would be the part right below "3" Spark Plug Diagram. So i have no way to get it out. I did replace the one, and the car stopped spiking, and runs fine, but i would like to get he other 3 --

And i cannot get pictures, its to dark in the cylinders.

Thanks
Dan

So it's stripped? I don't know how hard it is to get at, but you might have to drill it out or something. Talk to a mechanic or auto parts store. Just ask around, it can't hurt.

You're saying the plugs turn, but don't back out? If this is the case, it needs to be fixed....soon! The plugs won't seal, causing loss of compression (bad). The cylinder head would prolly have to come off to get the plugs out, and helicoil the holes.

Its not stripped for sure. Its just not there--- I have changed alot of spark plugs, but have never seen this. The one i took out did have it. Haven't had time to take it to a shop yet.

Had it compression tested when i got it, thats all fine.

Sounds like you're saying the hex portion of the plug that you put the socket on to screw it out is rounded off. If so, try using a 6 point socket rather than a 12 point socket.

try a longer spark plug socket.

or put a socket over top of the end of the spark plug socket and see if that works first.

Longer wouldn't help. Its just not there, I can see down in it.

Its not worn either, its seriously not there, I can see the bottom of the cylinder.
