I just recently got a DVD burner to back up a lot of my stuff. My problem is that none of my drives want to actually open any of the DVD's if they have long names. I was able to open my disc called "Apps" just fine and "Mouse" just fine, but if I put it "Daria S1" or "Kiddy Grade" it just displays a blank disc. Is there some sort of update I'm missing?

Updated firmware, still not working. When I put in a long named DVD it turns the name of the drive in My Computer, which is usually DVD/CD-RW Drive, to CD Drive, and then obviously won't open.

could be your burning parameters. try burning in "joilet" and see if that helps, and of course the quality of your discs will make a small difference, but maybe small enough to matter.

Some dvd burners are very media-specific. My Sony dru-510a will do very strange things with anything but sony media (including the naming problem you mentioned).
Try checking the media compatibility list from your burner's manufacturer and try some of those discs.
By doing that, I cleared all my dvd burning issues. Turns out it's a very common problem.
