Im trying to help a guy I know with his dinosaur. Its a compaq deskpro
2000
(5233mmx).He got some sort of a pda and wanted to use the serial for
downloads/uploads to it and I guess the software wanted win 98se not 95
which is what it has.So he did the upgrade and said he had a few errors
during the install.Looks like the main problem is the secondary
controller
(for cd) is saying that it wants a bios update as bios is reporting the
resources incorrectly.I removed the primary controller hoping the
reboot
might set it straight to no avail. Its missing vga and sound drivers but
cant
do those since no working cd drive.I did run the system file check and
it
said the setup file may be corrupt.
As far as the bios goes,I went to the compaq site and could not find a
newer
bios version than what it has (its 12-10-98 family 586m).So that leaves
me
thinking that this is all due to the errors during the upgrade. What do
you
think?Hes got his programs on here and word documents etc so he was
hoping
to save it all.Personally I dont usually mess with this stuff I just
format
and do it clean, but thought id ask you what you think.Should I try to
re run
setup to save the system as it is? Hes got plenty of ram....looks like
256
which shocked me,and 2 hds in the system.
All help is appreciated
