Problem : Transferring files

.Portable Hard Drive (Hytachi, 1 Tb, 6 months old)

No Software installed.

File transfer rate begins at 30 mb for a second or two than slows to 120 kb and below.

Files can be seen and selected, Folders can be opened but it takes 10-15 seconds.

Have tried other ports, other cables.

Other drives transfer files at 30 mb.

Win 7

Any Suggestions appreciated.

Thank you

Take it out of the portable enclosure (if you don't care about warranty, since some makers frown on this) and then stick it in your main machine.
Then use something like crystaldiskinfo (free) to tell you the SMART attributes.
You can also do transfers, and see if the speed is constant or not.

Sounds like the drive is going bad. Remapping bad sectors makes it hella slow.
