ADD isn't a real disease, sorry.

You might be 100% right. Honeslty, the doctor didn;t specifically say that I had ADD......He just told me that Adderoll would help as it had helped other patients.

I'll probably get flamed for this, but I'm tired of people copping out and claiming they are ADD when they're just f'n lazy. Go outside, ride a bike, enjoy a group activity.

When was the last time you couldnt pay attention to your television?

But that is what I do. Once I build myself up, I do 40 miles on my road bike every saturday. My problem is with an erratic and uncontrollable pattern of lathargicness that gets me into trouble. If anything, sleeping more makes it worse.

When was the last time you were watching something you were really into then a commercial came on and 10 seconds into it you turned the channel only to completely forget where you were and what you were watching?

beer, are you a doctor ?

If not STFU, My little boy has ADHD, his attention span is exactly 30 seconds, he fails all his classes at school, 4 different pediatricians has diagnosed him with ADHD ATTENTION DEFICIT HYPER DISORDER, he takes Aderall, when he's on it (during school days) he does excellent, low a's, high b's and his attention span is normal, without it, he fails all his classes.

So do not tell me that there is no such thing as ADD or ADHD.

Ok, so you lack motivation like many other people. You probably also lack a proper diet. Eat a green thing once in a while, and maybe pop a On-a-Day

I dont doubt the existance of ADHD in some cases... However, it definately is used as a cop out far too much when parents and school shrinks dont want to deal with the real causes of not paying attention. I wish you and your son the best Roger.

ADD is NOT ADHD

ADHD is evident
ADD is not

In particular, I'm talking about all the 'Adult ADD' ads they have been swarming the TV - as well as newspapers - lately. ADD in general is not diagnosed as ADHD - hence why they have two names

ADHD is hyperactivity. They've been diangosing ADHD for decades now. ADD is laziness. Adderall, on people with "ADD", is used to make them more active and mentally clear. Used for ADHD, it brings people under control

And iceberg is worthless. Romaine is the most common lettuce that is actually worth something.

I am not going to sit and debate this until I am blue in the face here. Every single person that I have known, from high school on later, has used aderall the same way that drug users use amphetamines. It is used to increase mental capacity and focus. Your situation may be different but I am speaking from MY personal experience, and this is MY opinion. I am somewhat pissed because heavy adderall users throw off my GPA with them fscking up the curves in most of my classes. It's a widespread drug (probably used more than pot here at Texas), and causes considerably more side effects than your run-of-the-mill DEA schedule two substances.

Adderall is an amphetamine, and a highly addictive one at that. The only difference between highly illegal meth and what you are giving your children is a single methyl group attached to the nitrogen. I am not going to debate the ethics of giving your child amphetamines for hyperactivity. Hyperactivity has always existed in most children for a long, long time and hasn't been diagnosed with dangerous substances.

The most amazing thing is, people make such a stint about aspartame, which is safe in normal uses. In normal situations adderall is still highly addictive.

It also doesn't help that there are doctors here that exist solely to write adderall perscriptions. They run adds for this 'adult add' in the newspaper every day, and give you a questionaire that anyone can lie on to get the prescrptions. It's bank for them, for the drug company, and hell, you get people hooked for life. Most drug dealers only wish they could be so efficient.

Another article I found. I don't think it's merely coincidental that the DEA schedules adderall in the same groups as cocaine. But once again, I am not here to debate ethics, now am I?

EDIT:

DEA drug schedule

And still more

another college paper on adderall abuse

And another
I could go on and on about this. The fact that it was originalyl designed as a weight loss drug should clue you in to it's chemical properties as well.

Every couple of months I go into a phase where I just don't care about anything, I just want to sleep for a few months and see what changes in the world. I can't sleep anyways... self-diagnosed insomniac,

Well, think of it via my perspective. Without this, or basically SOMETHING, that can remove the general malaise I feel every damn day, I have no future.

I will never graduate college.
I will never Become an electrical engineer.
I will lose all my friends...again.

I am not exactly free to play it by ear if you get my drift. Right now I cannot even hold a decent work-study job. I seriously hope addiction never comes to play, but the effects are something I seem to require to function adaquately in society.

beer, you stated this,I did not ;

ADD isn't a real disease, sorry.

I had no quarrel with you regarding Aderall, I do have a quarrel with you because of the above statement that you posted.

ADD and ADHD do exist, do not tell me or others otherwise.

Hyperactivity in youth have existed for thousands of yearrs. Hell, look at a puppy or a baby rabbit - mammals are just hyperactive when they are young, that's the way the body is built I guess. It just proves to be a problem when you are trying to operate in a structured setting like a classroom. I don't doubt that hyperactivity exists, I just don't think it's this late-20th-century phenomenon that so many people make it out to be, because raising dogs you can see the exact same traits there too. I also don't disagree that there are varying levels of hyperactivity as well. I just don't think treating them with amphetatmines is the answer to a temporary problem, since it creates a severe dependency that exists long after the normal age of hyperactivity would be over.

And for the record I do use adderall around finals. However I am fully aware that I am abusing it, I'm not triying to pass it off as a legitimate 'disorder.'
