Problem Starting computer

My computer was due for its monthly cleaning tonight. I took out the mobo as I usually do and cleaned everything nicely. Put it all back together and now it won't boot. I plug in the power and it starts running (without me pushing any buttons) and then about 3 or 4 seconds later it shuts off and I can't turn it on. Any idea what's up?

It sounds like my hard drive spins up really, really fast and then gets going too fast so the computer says "screw this" and shuts down... I unplugged the hard drive though and it still does it. Computers sure are frustrating. Sucks that this happened at 3am too...

unmount everything. Install mainboard, processor and memory (no video). Start it and listen to the beeps. Install video card. Start it. Install the rest of the components (one at a time). Be very carefull installing the video card - they must enter in the mainboard all the way, and a little more.
Good luck (by the way, try with a single memory stick, if you have more of them)

A case short to the mb will usually shut it down almost instantly. Running for a few seconds is often a failure of the mb to read the cpu fan signal. Make sure the noise you hear is not coming from the cpu fan, check it for good connection to the proper header, etc..

I take everything out of the case and dust a lot, making sure to get it all. Overkill I suppose... Anyway, unmounting everything now. Let's see what happens.

Ok, started it with just the cpu and memory and it didn't beep at all. I did notice, however that my north bridge fan looked like it tried to start. It was turning very slow. Would that cause it?

Edit: Unplugged the NBF and when I starts it it makes a long beep. Plugged it back in and it seemed to spin a bit faster but still wasn't really going.

Edit2: The NBF seems to be fine now, oddly enough. I put the video card in and it tries to start as usual and beeps for 2-3 seconds then goes off.

I feel like such an idiot... I had my power switch/led/etc. things plugged into the wrong spots. Works great now!
