Problem...Slotket or Chip?

specs:
BE6-2
p3 500 and p3 700 fcpga
128 pc133 RAM
18 gig IBM Desktar
Abit Slotket

When I have my p3 500 installed everything runs fine, but when I swap in the p3700 flip chip with the Slotket I swear, its weird, but I lose my internet connection after running Half-life online for about 1-5 minutes.

With the 500 chip Half life runs fine on multiplayer, but once I swap in the new chip it runs for a bit, freezes and after that point I can't check email, run IE or ping games on servers until I reboot.

I'm wondering whether I need to set anything up on the slotket or in bios (besides changing the multiplier) and if possibly I might have a defective chip or slotket. Anyone have any ideas or similar experiences?

Ok, heres an addendum, on the scenario I described before I was using OpenGL, when I switched to DirectX I did not get the same problem. Anyone know why?

After further testing 'JambaJuice loads the shotgun' as he realizes that Direct3D gets the same connection error and freeze as in Opengl... Help, I'm utterly confused.
