problem setting up wireless network

router is a Linksys WRT54G wireless usb adapter is a 2wire (no model #) I configured the router and the main PC can get on fine. I hooked the usb adapter up, that pc detects the network, says it's connected excellent, but it won't let me use it. I tried with and without WEP.

on the 2nd pc (with the usb) when I try to ping anything I get "Unable to initalize windows socket interface, error code 0"

googling brings up a few win98se problems. But, this box is XP home. I'm not 100% the router's not broken. as there's no other pc with wireless to test it, and I'm not 100% the adapter's not broken. the ping issue has me worried though. any suggestions on things I can try? thanks

also I can't even connect directly to the router from pc #2, so it's more then just internet access that's not working.
