Problem sending to an external account using Exchange 2000

Hi...

I have a problem with forwarding mail using exchange 2000.

I have set up a contact with the external address, and setup one of the accounts to forward mail to this external account and keep a copy.

If somone from within the domain sends an email to the account it gets forwarded to the external account without any problem.

The problem is when an external email comes in to the exchange it reaches the account but does not get forwarded to the same external contact that works when an internal mail is sent.

Thanks in advance for your help.

check your relaying in your SMTP server.
look for the box that says "allow authenticated users to relay regardless of this list" (or something like that) and make sure it is selected.
see if that helps
