problem selling WoW on ebay

i bought WoW and played for about 3 weeks, but i realized that it was too time consuming for me. so, i cancelled my account, and sold my copy on ebay. now i got an email from the buyer saying that he cannot play because the cd-key will not give him authorization. what is wrong? is it really impossible to install WoW on more than one computer? is there any way to transfer complete ownership of the game to him? has anyone else ever had this problem?

thanks for any help.

in the EULA, it states that accounts/cd's are transferable. he should be able to install it without a problem, but since you've already cancelled your account, he'll need to make a new one.

IIRC, the cd code is just used when you're registering your first account to get the first month free.

how do we transfer the rights? i cancelled my account on worldofwarcraft.com, but it still lets me sign in and my account status says "frozen." does this mean my account is somehow still active and that is why he cannot create his own account?

Blizzard may have also found out that you sold it via ebay and simply locked the account for good. They have been actively pursuing people who do the whole ebay thing and locking accounts of gold farmers and stuff.

As for installing on more than one PC, well, I did it just fine installing at home and work. 🙂

You CANNOT cancel your account for WoW, only suspend it. Your account still exists and your characters still exist, you just cannot access them because you have not paid yet. This allows you to lapse, but still keep your old characters if you're say going on a long vacation or hit some rough times.

As a result you cannot really sell WoW. The CD key only works for one account. You can change some of the information in the account, but Blizzard purposefully doesn't let you change a lot of the info, so the original owner can still re-take posession of the account.

But my copy came with a few cards with codes on them saying something about leading it to a friend to install and they get a 10 day trial.
Can't you just use that, then have them pick up the bill if they like it?

I am about to finish a build for my bf/gf and she was acts interested in playing WoW, and i was going to install it for her and start a new character to play with her along her lv.

he can't create his own account you have to give him the name and password that you used
and let him reactivate it himself

I did that for my son on a used WoW I bought of the FS/Trade here on anantech.

Can't change the original account name, but you can update the account info and set your new password.

Those trial cards come with the Collector's Edition. They are totally different from what this thread is about.

You should be able to install WoW on her system and setup a new account using that card. It is NOT tied to your current account.

On a topic related note. I'm suprised nobody has flamed the OP for even posting thsi in the first place. Since so many people have personal issues with the guys who sell in-game items for real-life money....
