Problem... reboots/freezing

I'm having a problem with my new computer.. specs are listed below:

Motherboard: evga 680i
CPU: core 2 duo e6600
RAM: corsair ddr2 800 pc2-6400 dominator 2gb
GPU: evga 7900gs ko pci-e 16x
HDD: western digital 250gb 16mb cache sata
PSU: thermaltake purepower 420w

Things of note: I'm using an adapter for 20 -> 24 pin power.
I plugged in a 4 pin cable for the cpu; 4 pins are open

This rig worked for about a day.. then problems started showing up. I cannot manage 5 mins before the screen goes black and bios shows up. The bios sometimes freezes immediately after displaying the CPU information.

It freezes after a couple minutes of looking through the bios.

It reboots after a couple minutes after booting up windows. (As stated above)

It worked for about a day... now it doesn't. That's what has me confused or wondering wtf is wrong.

What makes me wonder is...

Why the hell does it freeze on the bios?

And how was it working a whole day the day before?
