Problem/Question about Antec SX1030 + MSI K7T Turbo-R

I started putting my new system together today. I put the mobo (MSI K7T Turbo) in the case and then plugged the PS into the mobo. When I plugged the ps into the wall outlet, the PS fan immediately went on and the mobo LEDs also went on. If I hit the power or reset button on the case nothing happened. I tried putting the power/reset switch headers into the mobo many different ways but nothing turned it off without actually pulling the cable out from the back. Does your PS fan go on if you have it plugged into both the wall and the mobo? Any ideas why?

That is a feature of the msi mobo's. SInce the antec ps's have no off switch it is always in standby mode. The mobo however powers on as soon as it detects standby current. Since that is always supplied by your ps when it is plugged in your mobo will boot right away. I had the same thing happen with said case a an msi k7t pro2a. Don;t worry about it but be careful. Plug the power supply in only once you are ready for the board to by powered on :)

thx for the reply hanpan.

so basically, the computer will always either be on or in standby mode and never really power off unless i pull the plug? Seems like an odd design feature since most people want to turn their computer off at least occasionally.

Do you know any tricks to get it to turn it off? If not, it shouldnt be so bad for me since i leave mine on 24x7x365 anyway;)

yeah...it must shut down....

i think what u'e talkign about happens to pretty much all psus and boards...like, if u shut off the psu w/ the switch (directly on the psu) while not pressing the power button, it'll boot up automatically if u turn the psu switch on without hitting the power buttong....non?

can u shut down in windows so it powers off?...or hold the power button for 5 seconds?

I had the same thing happen to me on an Antec SX830 and a MSI K7T-Pro2A. In MSI's BIOS there is a setting (sorry can't remember exactly which screen and I'm not on my home rig) to change the power status on loss of power. In short, say if your system was left on and you lost power for some reason, you can set how you want the Antec "Smartpower" supply to respond when it senses power restored (Power ON, Power OFF and Standby I think are the choices). I set mine to always off and now after Win98SE shuts down I have to hit the Power button to turn it back on.

Hope this helps...
