Problem playing SD DVDs

I'm sure this is a stupid problem and I'm just overlooking something but I can't figure it out. I've had everything hooked up (A2 DVD player, 32" Toshiba Regza LCD TV, and Onkyo HT-SR800 HTIB setup) for a couple of weeks and everything's been just fine with absolutely no problems.

Yesterday I decided to try and play an SD DVD in the player for the first time but can't get any video from the DVD itself. I'm new to all of this and thought I had everything set up correctly but I guess I have something wrong somewhere.

Currently from the DVD player: HDMI to receiver, coax audio to receiver, and component video to TV.

In case it's important: there is one HDMI out on the DVD player, three HDMI ins on the TV, and 1 HDMI out and 2 HDMI ins on the receiver.

Please tell me how stupid I am and what I have hooked up wrong?

ETA - Forgot to mention there is an HD DVR from Comcast that's involved in the mix as well.

I take it HD-DVDs work fine? I have my A2 connected to a receiver via HDMI, and then to the tv via HDMI also. No problems with regular DVDs.

Maybe the 1080 upconvert on the A2 is for HDMI only. Try going from the HDMI out on your receiver to the tv for the video.

Unless I'm missing something, your hookup is really wonky. There isn't any reason to have both HDMI & coax audio to the receiver, and on top of that component video going to the TV.

Just go HDMI to the receiver from both the A2 and the cable box, then HDMI from the receiver to the TV, and leave it at that.

My problem is with the video for SD DVDs. I am not having a problem with any audio at all. I'm just trying to figure out what's going wrong with the video for SD DVDs.

Edit - I see you edited your post while I was responding. I'm using this setup because that's what the receiver's manual told me to do for these devices. The link to their setup is in the Onkyo link above.

I understand that point. The receiver will send video out the HDMI right? Connsect anHDMI cable from the receiver out to the TV to handle the video instead of the others.

And you have HDMI going from the receiver to the tv, correct? Just remove the component cables from the DVD player to the tv.

Set the tv source to the receiver, and the receiver source to the HDMI the DVD player is connected with.

I don't mean to sound harsh here, but I think you need to read up on the basics of hookups here. You're running multiple video outputs all over the place for no particular reason. You'll save yourself a lot of time and headaches by understanding the technology better.

You only need HDMI from both boxes to the receiver, then the receiver to the TV. That's it.

That's OK. I'm new to all of this and still learning so I've been going by what the manuals said to do. My receiver issue is a unique one but I couldn't afford to spend more on a purely HDMI setup (I wish I could have though -- perhaps later in the future).

So concerning the HDMI setup instruction on Onkyo's link (up above), which cables do I NOT need? Because now I'm really getting confused.... LOL

You say the receiver doesn't handle audio from HDMI, so leave the audio cables from the DVD and cable box to the receiver. Other than that have two HDMI cables going from the DVD and cable box into the receiver, and a single HDMI going from the receiver to the tv.

Remove the other redundant video cables.

Right. You'll need to setup the receiver to understand which HDMI and which audio inputs go together, so when you switch to "DVD" on the receiver (or whatever), it will switch it to the correct HDMI and audio inputs. It will then output the video signal to your TV via HDMI.
