Problem playing demos on Quake 3 Arena 1.30

Hi, I'm having problems playing the in game demo001 and demo002 in Q3A 1.30, as well as 2 other older demos I downloaded, torture.dm3 and quaver.dm3. It shows up on the "demos" sub-menu, but bumps me back to the main menu when I try to play them. Also, I can't play a demo recorded by a friend of mine, who is also running 1.30...again it shows up on the "demos" sub-menu, but same thing happens...I've placed it in baseq3\demos directory, isn't that correct?
What am I missing? Thanks

Try typing \demo demo_name in console, but I think 1.30 cames with demo Four not demo001/002.
Demos recorded with 1.30 should have extention *.dm_66 (not dm_48 etc.)
Also check maybe some map is missing.

yeah i do but not a lot of servers use them yet. besides, i'll lose all my demos since the protocol has changed, so i'm sticking with 1.30 for now...
