ok here's the deal (this isnt short):

i have a duron 600, on a kt7, and i connected the bridges with the pencil trick
now it easily goes to 650 without any problems, but when i take it to 700 (changing voltage to 1.6V) it only posts after i hit the reset button a few times........
.........and when i restart/turn on/off my computer, it doesnt post until i reset it a few times AGAIN......sometimes it posts back at 600 but in the BIoS it says its 700....

i thought it might be a voltage thing, but running it at 650 @1.6V is FINE, restarting and all........

so what is it? what did i do wrong? is it my pencil job (mebbe its weak and only works after a few tries?)

plZ tell me........

THX :) :) :) :)

nope, these chips are actually pretty tough. I had thermal epoxy on mine and used a razor blade to scrape it off. Then I used a moist alcohol pad and wiped it down. I did the pencil trick and am happily running at 900MHz as I type this.

As far as the pencil trick on the L1 bridges. Do I cover each of the four gold parts in L1 in pencil individually? Or do I just cover everything in L1 with one big lead mass?

Ok I don't know about those Abit boards. But it sounds like you need to up your core voltage. Since the defualt voltage for the Duron is like 1.60volts, I was also having problems getting windows to boot.
So I am now running at 1.70 volts @ 800mhz, I have booted at 900mhz(1.85 vcore) but I didn't run it for long as the golden orb was starting to lose its cool, heh. I will make the jump to 900 when I get a better HSF and some extra fans for my case.

I'm currently running:

Duron 600 @ 800 w/ Golden Orb (mark 2) (vCore @ 1.70 volts)
Asus A7V Rev 1.02
32GB Maxtor Diamond Max Hard Disks (15GB + 17GB)
32MB ATI Rage 128 Video Card
128MB PC100 SDRam
$12 Network Card
Viewsonic PF790 19 inch monitor
Sound Blaster Live! Value
All Inside an AOpen HQ45 Case (250watt AMD approved)

In summary: Try upping your cpu core voltage.

and btw COUTNERSTRIKE rules!
I'm [WTO] Cage and I usually play on the red phives server's, maybe see you on sometime :)

default for a duron 600 is 1.5v, mine was stable at 800mmz with 1.5v, i am now running 920 with 1.7v, i dont have any cooling problems, it rairly gets above 35 C. And BTW, the PAL6035 made a big difference...

I can make 700 with only 1.5V
But I cannot make any further than 700
Should i replace the original heatsink with the "bigger" one ?

I just had a guy I work with fill in my L1 bridges (lack of) with a precision soldering iron-uh, on lunch break of course. He just applied a flux pen to the area and then flowed some solder over each broken bridge. Can't wait to get home tonight to test it out.
