this is the CPU i bought, everyone talks about getting 2.4 ghz at 1.46, but whenever i do that my comp just dies and doesnt turn on and hten i have to reset CMOS.......i have 1 gig ocz pc3200.....that cpu.....7800gt pci-express.......k8n neo4/sli......and my heatsink was bought separately too!! anyone can gimme a solutoin?? thx!

Overclocking is all about "little steps". Start with a small OC, and work your way up.

As for limitations, well:
-not every CPU is capable of the same OC
-not every board is capable of the same OC

Also, what are the rest of your system components and their status? Ie:

PSU - can seriously limit overclocking if lines aren't 100%
Hard Drives - SATA or IDE, and do you have them on "locked" ports/channels
PCI/AGP/PCI-E - what devices do you have and have you "locked" the port speeds
Cooling - Case/CPU what do you have? Not every case and heatsink is up to the task.
RAM - are you running dividers or 1:1?

Read the thread Bulldog suggested.

Dude, you can't just go into the bios, crank up the FSB/HTT, and expect everything to be GTG. It takes time and patience.

First, Start with lowering your HTT Multi to 3x. Lock your PCIE x16 speed to 100 mghz. Relax your mem timings to 3-4-4-8, or use a mem divider to lower your mem/fsb ratio. Now start upping the HTT speeds in, I would suggest increments of 2, but that's just me. Make sure you can boot into windows, play CS:Source for an hour or so to make sure that it's stable, and go back into bios to increase FSB futher.

Good luck !!! ;)

That's a laugh! I set my HTT to 3x set the memory divider to 100Mhz, voltage to 1.5v and with Clockgen jumped 2.2Ghz...2.4Ghz...2.5Ghz to my X2 did a BSOD at 3Ghz!

I agree completely with the "little steps" method, but you can save a lot of time by going to the CPUs limits by this method - once you have removed all the elements the BIOS control you narrow the field down to PSU, cooling or the limitations of the MOBO.

My guess is you upped the FSB to 267. So 9x267. There is no way your memory can run at those speeds at their default timings. I would actually use the memory divider down to 133 so your memory is running at bout 177 mhz. Lower you HTT to 600 or 3x or whatever it is in bios.

This will get you to 2.4ghz. Then start playing with it. Raise your memory to a 5/6 divider, raise the timings to 2.5 3 3 8 as see.

HAVE FUN

Oh wait you have a MSI mobo. Could be that your mobo is also limiting you.

my venice ran out of mhz long before the MSI ran out of FSB:

Yeah, MSI's will go high on the FSB. I can run mine at 290MHz without a problem. Haven't tried any higher.

Wait a min!!!!
HOW DID YOU GET YOUR VOLTAGE THAT HIGH?!?!?!?!
Seriously, I can only get to 1.55v with BIOS set at 1.55v and the overclock thing set to 8.3%. Do I have to change another setting to get it to go higher?

(Meant to hit edit not quote, oops)

OK, the one that says HT frequency, and shows as 5x in your picture, change that one to 3x. The HTT tends to get unstable past 1000mhz, so if you have the"CPU FSB Frequency above 200 and below 250, the "HT frequency" should be set to 4x. If you go above 250, you need to set it to 3x.

You'll have to go in to the menu that says DRAM configuration to change you memory ratio. Not sure how yours is set up since I have a differant motherboard, but I have options such as 200, 180, 166, 150, 133, 100. Set yours to a lower ratio, like 133. This will eliminate the ram from holding you back, it's very unlikely your ram can handle an overclock at 2-2-2-5 timings, so using a divider will eliminate the problem.
