This is kinda tough to explain, but I've run out of options.
I had a BFG 5700LE that I think was a pure waste of money, so I went and bought an MSI 6600 GT and I've been quite happy with it, when its not doing this.
Any time a certain window opens up, even something as innocent as ICQ's welcome window thing, or a forum with a lot of pictures or banners, my computer will act like its going to freeze up. The cursor still moves, but I cant click on anything or do anything other than move it. After about 10-20 seconds of that, the cursor will stop moving and freeze. Sometimes my monitor will flash and the whole process will start over again. Sometimes it will just show the cursor jump to another part of the screen and still be frozen.
I've tried deleting every video driver and reinstalling them, the ones that came with the card, the ones off of the Nvidia site, and I even tried the omega drivers just to see if I could get a different result. So I'm not sure if its the drivers or not, I just dont even know what it could be.
It doesnt do anything bad while playing a game though. Games run beautifully, much better than that 5700LE did. But it just doesnt like certain windows.
Whats strage is, that I can temporarily fix the problem by going into my Display Properties, Settings tab, Advanced, Troubleshoot and turn down Hardware Acceleration to about two or three notches from None, and the problem will be gone. Of course with the options that get disabled with that choice I cant do anything but search forums and webpages and stuff. Cant game...
So... if I want to play, I have to go back into my properties and turn it back up. When I want to do other stuff, I have to turn it down. Kinda a pain. Any help would be greatly appriciated. Even if its "Get a new card" (which I'm hoping its not)
