Problem mounting mobo in case (x-post from Tech Support)

I asked this question in Technical Support, and was told I might get more help in here.

Seems my Gigabyte board won't mount correctly to my Antec SX635 case, and I'm not sure whether I should leave it as is, or make some new holes. Forget trying to mount it with 9 screws, I can barely hold it in with 4. There are only 5 holes that match up to begin with between the case holes and the holes in the board. Of those, for some reason I can only get 4 screws in. The fifth never matches up quite 100%. I've tried everything--loosening the other screws, tightening them, shifting the board slightly. Nothing is working, and I'm worried that the board will twist and warp over time if its not held in properly, in addition to concerns about shorts.

What should I do?

sorry, I have no solution for you, but I really don't think you can just drill some new holes in your mobo, doesn't seem like a wise thing to do. call antec, maybe they sent you a defetive case? or maybe called tech-support at Gigabyte

I've had several cheapy cases like that but the mobo is still secure enough with just a few screws, then add in the connetcions from the peripherals all was very secure. Never had a problem yet and never any problems like a warped mobo or any short. But the bigger problem may be if the peripherals fit properly. You might try conntecting the mobo with just a few screws first, then see if your peripherals fit and connect ok.

That is if you wish to keep the case or hassle with any rma. Antec cases are usually good quality and this could be an issue, especially if the peripherals do not attach easily and line up correctly.

I haven't heard of this happening. Which Gigabyte board is it?

Is it possible that the back of the case (where the i/o ports are located) is warped? This actually happened to me one time, and I could not mount the board to the case. So, what i had to do was take a small hammer and bang out the warped area so that it was able to accomodate the motherboard. You should check that out.

Also, did you remove the little metal pieces that are found on the sides of the i/o ports on the board? I recall those getting in the way one time when I had forgotten to remove them.

Its the Gigabyte GA-7VRXP, so I think it should be pretty common. I don't think the problem is with the I/O ports either, since the board fits in perfectly there. I'm gonna give it another whirl tonight, and if that doesn't work I'll just use 4 screws I guess. Not really much else I can do at this point.
