Problem joining domain with Win XP Pro machine.

I just built a computer and clean installed Windows XP Pro on it. I plugged it into the router at the office and the shared internet connection (DLS) works just fine. There is already another Windows XP Pro machine on the domain that is working fine, and I make sure that the settings on the new machine are identical to the settings on this machine (except for computer name). IP and DNS addresses are set to be handled automatically by DHCP. I go into the Computer Name Changes dialog and click on the circle next to Domain under "Member of" and enter the name of the domain. When I press the "OK" button, there is a hesitation and then a Window pops up saying a Domain Controller for the domain could not be contacted. Just for the heck of it, I changed the name of this computer to be the same name as the other Windows XP Pro machine on the network and tried to join the domain again. When I hit the "OK" button, I immediately get an error message telling me there is already a computer with that name on the network. Now I wonder... How does it know THAT if a Domain Controller for the domain can not be contacted? When I change the name back and try again, once again it cannot find a domain controller.

Any suggestions on how to get this computer to join the domain are appreciated.

It might help to know that the router is a Sonicwall TELE3 firewall appliance.

Can you ping the server from this system?
Does the system have a software firewall installed (ICF?)?
Is there a host file entry for the DC on this system?
Is the DC doing DHCP and/or DNS?
Are you inputting the fqdn (.com, .net, .local, etc) or netbios name?

Verify your DNS settings on the machine you're trying to add. You may be using the ISP's DNS server instead of the local.
