Is your friend using a SATA hard disc and have they installed the SATA drivers from floppy (by pressing F6 when prompted)

It does have a pretty nice gash in it, but it works on a different (18GB) HDD when I use it on another motherboard. This is Vigs friend with the computer problem.

it may be that the cd-rom drive on the other system makes a better job of reading a damaged cd.

is it possible you could temporarily 'borrow' the cd-rom drive from the other system? that might allow you to get XP installed.

That didn't work. I tried using the other HDD when the CD-Drive didn't work, and I got the same results. The only way I can think of is to complete the MSI Survey I got with my (old) Motherboard and get my free copy of Windows XP 64-Bit. As most people have said, it isn't too different from regular XP.

Will get you specs soon. I now have another problem on a different computer. It won't boot, the power led just stays orange (when it should be green) and nothing happens. Any thoughts?

Yes, and they can be summed up as: "Full specs including brand & model of the power supply and the RAM? :)"

(what do you think we are, psychic? ;))

Alright, I got some specs.

(Computer with orange LED Specs)
Hynix PC133U-333-542; 256MB Sync 133MHZ CL3
280wat powersupply
GeForceFX 5600XT 256MB DDR
Seagate 20GB Hard-Drive
CD-RW Disc Drive

I know, not having the motherboard makes these specs useless. How do I find the motherboard brand?

(NTFS.SYS Computer Specs)
Asus K8N, Socket 754, Systembus 1600MT/S, DDR400, 8-Channel Audio
ATI Radeon 9600XT, 128MB DDR, AGP 8x/4x
1GB PC3200 400MB DDR RAM (I think the ram is from HAMSES)
RaidMax 420wat Power-supply
Samsung 128GB Hard-drive
AMD Athlon 64-Bit, 3.0GHZ, Socket 754 CPU

On the K8N, try kicking the memory voltage up to 2.7 volts and take another run at the installation. RaidMax isn't a brand I'd choose, but since you're not demanding too incredibly much of it with that CPU/GPU combination, I guess you can keep trying with it. But if you have a reputable brand of 350W+ unit laying around, such as Antec, Enermax or Fortron, consider trying that if the memory-voltage bump doesn't do the trick.

On the second rig... can you find out what brand of power supply (the label will say). 280W might be enough if it's quality. If possible, look over the motherboard for model markings (usually silk-screened on it in white lettering, or maybe on a sticker), or try running CPU-Z from http://www.cpuid.com and see if it can figure out the mobo. While you're at it, give us the CPU brand & model on that system too.

Initial random guess on the second system: if the video card is designed to be powered directly from the power supply with a power cable, make sure that's hooked up.

Ok, nighty bye for mech-mech :moon: Catch you tomorrow.

I took the wimps way out and took the computers to a technician. *sigh* I got all the parts for my new computer in December...And I still can't use it.
