Problem installing modem in right Port.

Ok i got an updated driver for my modem, but everytime i try to install it windows detects it and installs the wrong one with that plug and play thing. so i uninstall it then go to install it manually, but when i do it only lets me choose port 1 and printer port, my modem is on port 3, so how do i get it to let me use that? Or how do i turn of that plug and play thing so windows won't install the wrong one.

You might want to give more information as to what model of modem you have? Also which version of windows are you using?

Are you sure you have the right drivers for the modem? Try going into device manager and updating the drivers for your modem and point windows to the location of your newer drivers.

I am running windows ME and my modem is a Zoom 56k, and yes i d/led the right drivers but its a .exe so i can't do the update drivers thing.

Which modem is it actually installing?
Maybe you need to delete some ".inf" files for an old
modem from "Windows/inf/other" ?
Just an idea.

It is installed as a zoom internal 56k LT voice faxmodem with drivers by Lucent. But when i check zoom's website they have drivers and i typed in serial number and it is Zoom 56k HSF modem Dualmode. If I uninstall the modem and try to install it manually it won't let me select com port3.

Download and run this file. It will remove all files and registry entries associated with the LT modem. Then shut down and physically remove the modem. Reboot, and reinstall as per the instructions that came with the modem.

Sounds like the website is messed up and you are being given the wrong drivers. You might try to unzip the files in the executable and then point to the folder in which they were unzipped during installation. Don't know if that will help or not.

The above file should do a thorough job of uninstalling everything so you can start over clean. Worse comes to worse, install the original drivers.

I don't have the original cd anymore, but the .exe file it has a readme that says that when restarted windows is supposed to know where the drivers are and install them correctly.
